Bobwhite
Quail Hunting...at its best!!!

Quailridge Plantation offers classical bobwhite hunting
in open longleaf pine woods in the heart of Georgia’s best quail country. It’s
located in the famed quail plantation belt between Thomasville and Albany
Georgia, 60 miles North of Tallahassee, Fla. On more than 4,500 acres of
gently rolling terrain, the open forest floor is covered with wire grass and
dotted with food strips.

The wire grass is ideal hiding cover for quail but short
enough to watch pointing dogs quartering back and forth in search of coveys and singles. The food and cover
are diversified for top native quail production. In addition, flight and
weather-conditioned quail are stocked from October into March to maintain
coveys and assure hunters of plenty of points and shooting

The hunting is from specially modified jeeps with high
rear seats so the hunters can easily see and enjoy the dog work. A guide, who
is also an expert dog handler, goes with each party. He usually puts down a
brace of pointing dogs-English pointers or setters-and slowly cruises the
woods as the dogs quarter back and forth through the pines.

When the dogs go on point, the hunters get out of the
jeep, quickly load their shotguns and walk in for the flush. The hunters
walk or ride to follow up singles, depending on cover and terrain. The hunting
is leisurely, usually three hours or so in the morning and about three hours
in the afternoon.

Quailridge is owned and operated by Edwin Norman and
sons, John and Ed. Edwin is descended from a long line of tobacco,
peanut and corn farmers, plus pulp and timber producers. John, a graduate
zoologist, does much of the dog training. He accepts a limited number of bird
dogs for training and sometimes has trained dogs for sale.

Using eight special jeeps, Edwin, John, and Ed guide the
hunting parties, along with other family members and local guides who have
been at Quailridge for many seasons. Their guiding experience insures each
hunter of friendly personal service, plus outstanding dog work. With the
limited number of parties, guests are sure of warm and courteous attention.
The FOUR lodges at Quailridge are large and each
has central heat and air, comfortable bedrooms, baths, lounging areas and
fireplaces. The main lodge has a kitchen and dining room and meals are served
family style. The generous meals feature old-fashioned Southern cooking, with
many of the meats and vegetables raised on the farm. The lodges overlook a
five-acre farm pond stocked with largemouth bass, bream and shell-crackers.
During the noon break; hunters can try their luck with the fish—or take a
siesta. There’s a trap range,
with automatic trap, where hunters can hone their shooting. Sporting clay
shooting is also available.
South Georgia weather in winter is unpredictable and
we suggest you bring layers of clothing so that you can adjust to warm or cold
temperatures. Be sure to bring comfortable walking boots and light rain gear.
A small pro shop is available where you will find hunting pants, shirts,
hunting coats, vests, snake-proof chaps and other related items.
Rates are available on a daily or overnight basis,
including 12 quail per hunter. Additional birds may be taken for an
extra charge. Quail are dressed and packed for a small fee.
Ouailridge is only 17 miles from the Moultrie Airport. In
the event you fly your own plane, the main runway is 5,100 feet. The Albany
Airport is 40 miles away and is served by commercial carriers. With a
Quailridge van, we offer a pickup service at both airports. You’ll be sure
of a hunt if you make your reservations early. We’ll look forward to hunting
with you at Quailridge Plantation.
Our season extends from October 1 to
March 31.
